I was slapped for speaking in tongues – 14-yr-old gospel singer Great Daniel recounts ordeal with record label

14-year-old gospel artiste, Daniel Monday Akpan who goes by the stage name, Great Daniel has revealed how he was slapped four times for speaking in tongues on stage by an executive of his former record label, EeZee Concept.
Great Daniel had recently announced his separation from the record label on his Facebook page without disclosing the reason.

However, in an exclusive interview with VANGUARD, the Akwa-Ibom-born singer disclosed that unfair treatment from the record label led him to part ways with them.

He said, “I went for a programme at Abia state, I spoke in tongues while on stage, and when we got to our hotel room, he [vice-president of the record label] was asking me why I spoke in tongues on stage. He shouted at me. I was trying to explain to him that it was not my fault, I was led by the Holy Spirit, the next thing, he gave me the first slap, the second slap, the third slap, the fourth slap, and I started crying because my parents weren’t with me, they were in Lagos state. I didn’t have anyone, so I came back to Lagos state.”

He also revealed that as a result of the fallout, the record label who had been sponsoring his education, cut him off from school and instead employed a home lesson teacher who taught him only three subjects out of nine he takes in school.
He said, “It was my first term in SS2, I dropped out from school, and I stayed at home for four months while my classmates were at school studying. They [record label] just stopped me from going to school, saying they will be bringing a home lesson teacher to take me at home because of security reasons.”
Daniel added he believed that God is going to take him places, especially now that he is about to embark on an independent music journey.

UK court sentences Ike Ekweremadu to 10 years in prison, his wife bags four years and six months

Organ trafficking: UK court sentences Ike Ekweremadu to 10 years in prison, his wife bags four years and six months

The Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, UK, has sentenced former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, to nine years and eight months in prison for organ trafficking. The court also sentenced his wife, Beatrice, to four years and six months jail term.

Recall that on March 23, the court found Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice, and their doctor, Obinna Obeta, guilty of trafficking a trader from Nigeria to the UK to harvest his organ, a crime under the United Kingdom Modern Slavery act 2015. The jury held that they conspired to bring the 21-year-old to London to exploit him for his kidney.

The verdict is the first of its kind under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 of the UK.

“What matters to me is Nyesom Wike ” Governor Wike says as he names a block in the new magistrate court after his wife

Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike has named a block in the newly-inaugurated Justice Iche Ndu Magistrates Court Complex in the state after his wife, Justice Eberechi Nyesom Wike.

Wike, who disclosed this during the inauguration of the complex on Thursday, May 4, also named other blocks after some top judges in the state.

Wike revealed he decided to name one block after his wife so as not to leave office ’empty-handed’.

“The first building by my immediate left has to be named Justice Chibuzor Amadi Block. And then we remembered one of our own who is late, Justice Elizabeth Membre. Block B is named after her. The President of the Customary Court of Appeal was also a Magistrate before, so the third block is named after the President of the Customary Court of Appeal.

“And then the last block, I said I will not go empty-handed. Every day, people say Wike you are generous. If I’m generous to myself, is it bad? So as I am leaving, let me also name that one after my wife. So, it will be named after Justice Suzzette Eberechi Nyesom Wike. What matters to me is Nyesom Wike, so my name is there and that block is for my dear wife,” Wike said.

“Why did we name this place after Justice Ndu? During his tenure as Chief Judge, he did very well – it was the period I was the Chief of Staff. You see a Chief Judge coming with dignity. You see a Chief Judge and you know that he is a Chief Judge and he contributed to the growth of the judiciary.

“We felt like, now that he is alive, let us remember that he has done his own work; that is why we have to name this complex, Justice Iche Ndu Magistrates Court Complex,” he explained.

BREAKING: ASUU STRIKE LATEST UPDATES

BREAKING: ASUU STRIKE UPDATE

ASUU MAY CONSIDER FGS OFFER AT NEC MEETING NEXT WEEK MONDAY

The National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will hold on Monday next week to decide on the offers by the Federal Government for it to end its ongoing strike.

The meeting promises to be a decisive one and may determine whether the government would axe the union as being contemplated.

This is just as a member of the NEC told Vanguard in confidence that whatever would be the decision of the union, would be in the best interest of the university system.

However, when contacted, the National President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, said his union was yet to officially get any offer from the government’s side.

“We have been negotiating with them through collective bargaining and whatever they have should not be made to us on the pages of newspapers. It should be done the way it is expected to be done. Our main problem with the government is that there is trust deficit. They will say something and will do another thing.

“After the Memorandum of Action was signed last year with them, they were supposed to pay some money in two tranches starting from August last year, but they did not do the needful.

As for other unions suspending their actions, ASUU is not a one man show, we will look collectively at whatever is presented to us. But as at now, nothing has been officially offered,” he said.

However, checks by Vanguard revealed that the coming NEC meeting could lead to the FG coming down hard on the union if it decides to continue with the strike.

Vanguard reported on Monday that the FG is ready to release money to revitalise the universities, pay Earned Academic Allowance and also jerk up the salaries of the workers a bit.

It is hoped that the union would accept the offers and avoid being proscribed as being contemplated.

THE UNTOLD STORY OF PASTOR JERRY EZE, HOW GOD RAISED HIM FROM NOTHING TO WHO HE IS TODAY

Pastor Jerry Eze is the founder of Streams of Joy International, and the leader of one of the popular prayer network, in Nigeria ‘NSPPD’, his ministry reaches out to millions of people and transforms life’s majorly.

Pastor Jerry Eze and Eno Jerry

Read below

THESE ARE SOME OF THE REASONS I SAW THAT MADE GOD RAISE JERRY EZE FROM IGBO LAND, THE EAST OF NIGERIA

(1) Because, before Jerry Eze rose to limelight, many young ministers in the east of Nigeria were selling their souls to Satan for money and fame…

Someone told them that without sleeping with pythons and fornicating with queen of the coast, that, they will never have crowd and money in ministry and we watched in helplessness how many vibrant guys were hijacked…

But the emergence of Jerry Eze in the scene is a beacon of hope for all those who vowed never to bow to Baal…

The younger ministers have now seen that If God can raise Jerry Eze without the use of juju and without packaging of miracles, then, they will wait for their own time…

(2) Many were running to rich and happening cities and town, so that they will attract oil workers and captains of industries as their members…

But the rising of Jerry Eze from Umuahia is a statement from God to the young ministers that it is not about where you are…

Just carry His burden… He will compel the world to carry His message in your mouth…

That once you have paid the price, that God can still make you a figure to represent Him in global capacity in the fullness of time…

You don’t know how many young men who were genuinely called by God who ran to mami water and took charms to enhance their ministry…

God used him to tell the followers of Jezebel to shut up… that one can still command the miraclulous without knowing the road to native doctors shrine…

How can someone see the Hand of God upon this man and still want to go down to Egypt for help?…

Any young man still patronising Juju to grow ministry must have really vowed to spend eternity in outer darkness…

Friends, in every generation, God raises some men because of some men… and it makes Satan angry seeing those men rising in righteousness and purity…

If you understand this, you will pray for this man with all your heart… so that God will sustain him in this journey…

My wife and I, from far away Belgium, we pray for him and even before now, it has been my duty to compel everyone around me to pray for him…

Not because he is the only man of God doing greatly from the east of Nigeria, but because, his rising is very strategic in the story that would be told about young ministers from my tribe in the near future…

Before now, once people hear about a preacher from the east of Nigeria, they will remember over 20 different young preachers from my tribe that have duped them with prophecies etc…

But right now, once you hear about ministers from my Igbo land, my tribe, people will remember: WHAT GOD CANNOT DO DOES NOT EXIST…

In place of shame, glory has taken over our story! Hallelujah!

To me, that’s how God chose to answer prayer from the lips of many remnants crying to Him to save us from that shame and change our story…

He is certainly not the most anointed man from my tribe, neither is he the only genuine man of God there…

Genuine Men and women dey in Aba, Umuahia, Onitsha, Awka, Ebonyi, Enugu etc that spits fire from the womb of righteousness and purity…

But his rising is very important and because of that, it will be a sin for people like us not to pray for him…

In few days, it will be his birthday…

Please, keep keeping him in your prayers… And none of us shall miss our own share of the rewards of intercession…

Let us pray!

GOSPEL ARTISTES AND THE HURTFUL ARROGANCE

I honoured an invitation three weeks ago and was chauffered by my host to the venue a little behind schedule. But already, I had asked my team to go to the venue and wait for me.

While they were there at the venue, they held a brief unscheduled meeting with themselves and reached a decision on what they thought would be best for me.

So immediately I arrived, the team leader (name withheld), I know he is reading this, whispered to me, “Oga, we need to talk o.”

“About what?” I retorted.

“Oga, you don big pass some places,” That’s what he said.

“Wow!” I snapped and I asked him, “Why?”

“Oga, you don pass this level,” He reiterated.

Honestly, at this point, I didn’t know what next to say.
I was enraged by his statement. It felt like an affront on our spiritual values. This guy has worked with me for several years now and has performed on stage with me for presidents, Governors and at ‘A’ rated events — churches and corporate organizations. And he has also gone with me to other smaller settings as well so I honestly don’t know why he disparaged this very church so much and felt that we were more than its settings.

However, Immediately I was done ministering, I couldn’t wait to to gather the team for a big “sermon on the mountain” — in other words, to scourge them of the pride in their resolution.

Meanwhile, you needed to see how grateful that pastor was that we stepped into his church. You could see it in his eyes and his expression. It was so lavish and profuse. For the next one week and beyond, he kept calling to thank me. He wished he had more to appreciate us.

Am just wondering. Waite o! How do u become so big and even bigger than some people who carry in them the God that lifted you?

Gospel artistes, why are you so proud? So some Christians are too small for your level? If you believe that they have the Spirit of God, why do you still think that you are bigger than someone who has the same Spirit that inspires your songs?

Ask those who have worked with me for at least twenty years, e.g Onyema Amadi, who is now a big boy — I do not discriminate when it comes to where to minister, as to the size or influence of the host.

Anyone that can meet the basic requirements for my logistics can invite me. I relate with everyone at their level. Although, there’s a caveat to my simplicity, which is, humility is not synonymous with stupidity. You cannot be at level ten and want us to relate at level one. If your level is one, I will relate with you at that level. But if it is ten, I will not relate with you at level one.

My problem with some Gospel artistes is, how did you suddenly become bigger than friends, brothers and all those who saw you grow? ‘Star mentality’ is a big problem. So because of that your ‘one single’ that is blessing some people, that will reach its terminal limit of current hit in maximum two or three years, you now want to tell off everyone?

Why should we even have star mentality as Gospel artistes? Most Gospel artistes move like peacocks because they consider themselves as stars. But listen: No Gospel artiste is a star. We are all followers of the Bright and the Morning Star.

As a music evangelist, pastor or preacher, why should stardom make you unreachable to those you are called to reach? You no longer respond to phone calls when you are contacted. You have followers on social media but you consider them too small to relate with even on Facebook or IG. You ignore those you are called to edify and encourage. What should we call you?

So what is the focus of your calling? You are invited to a place to minister, after ministering, you walk out arrogantly. You no longer have the time for others to minister to you. What a tragedy!!

You deliberately come late for ministration because you want everyone to be seated before your arrival so you can be specially received amidst shouts and applause. Who bewitched you? Is that how to represent Christ?

You behave like a rich boy because you now have one or two miserable four wheels and possibly a little house of your own. Have you seen the rich people in Nigeria? Do you know what it truly means to be rich in Nigeria? Story for another day.

Ninety five percent of Gospel artistes in Nigeria are poor people. Quote me anywhere. They are just comfortable but not to be called RICH. Name one RICH gospel artiste and I will tell you where he/she is in the radar.

I have said this severally: secular musicians are not our standard. We cannot model our ministry and profession after secular artistes. Our destinations are not the same. We should not be influenced by their lifestyles and standard. So stop copying the same people that we have been called to evangelize through our songs. Stop importing worldly values into Christianity.

If God has blessed you and lifted you from a certain level, be grateful and conduct your life with humility. There is always a level higher than where you think you are now.

MEANING OF ASUU STRIKE

TO ALL OUR FOREIGN FRIENDS WHO ARE CURIOUS TO KNOW THE MEANING OF ASUU STRIKE: ASUU Strike is an annual festival done in
Nigerian Universities whereby students are not allowed to go to school during the festival. The date of the event is always fixed
by the lecturers of Nigerian state
and federal universities.

The event is remarkable in that everyone is a spectator.

Highlight of the festival is the wrestling match between federal executive council and the leaders of the lecturers.

There is no referee to officiate the wrestling match, as such the
wrestling comes to an end when both contestants are tired.

The duration of the festival is indefinite depending on the strength of the wrestlers.

If you are wondering were to
spend your vacation then Nigeria should be your destination because the festival is at its peak.

Happy ASUU STRIKE to Nigerian students!!!

From Me, I challenge every Nigerian student to sit down this period and find the facts about the recurrent dilemma and battle between ASUU and FG and take a positive stand never to let this continue in a few years to come. Else the same hands that criticise whatever side of the two wrestlers today will sure be in that position a few years from now and will do the same things or even worse.

ASUU and FG fight is only a reflection of the greed and insensitivity, I see in many Nigerian establishments even in the offices of the same ASUU members who accuse the FG of the same.

May God help you and I to raise Hope for the Future of our dear country, Nigeria. IT BEGINS WITH YOU AND I.
